So, with pretty much every 5th Generation Pokémon revealed, I'm starting to put together a sort of list of the ones I will use. Yes, looking at everything else in the game, it actually looks pretty neat. Out of the starters and their evolutions, I find that I could probably stand to evolve Mijumaru, which is important for a starter. I'm still deciding on which version, because I need to know which ones are exclusive to which version, even though I could probably trade. Not concerned with which legendary I want to catch. The couple version exclusives revealed so far don't impress me as well. And Gear is a cheap ripoff of a Pokémon, as well as its "evolutions". I could easy weld something much better in Garry's Mod. Now I'm just trying to fill in the blanks of which types are not yet represented in my list of ones that I'll use.

Here are the beasts.

So... yeah... The white one, which goes with the Black Version, has some sort of... thing going on... down there. I'll let you decide. The black one, which goes with the White Version, looks like a leather Metal Gear or something. They also look too similar to each other. Also, I can't remember the names of the guys. I keep thinking one's Seraphim and the other is Zefron or Darkon or something. I don't know why. They look like they're out of Final Fantasy, in a bad way. This is partly why I liked Pokémon, it wasn't Final Fantasy. We should pray for the poor Pokémon of past generations that will get evolutions this generation. I don't know if praying to Arceus would be an option right now, they may be drunk for all I know.

The Black Version one and the White Version one. They're not mixed up.

I'm done here. And with this game. SoulSilver is my last Pokémon game, I'm pretty sure. I should get back to playing it. Sure, Pokémon Black and White might have some neat features, but if I don't like the characters, then I have no reason to enjoy those features. It's like Final Fantasy, where I don't care for the game itself but some of the creatures are neat.

Of course, it would be awesome if this fiasco was the work of a team of hackers. Then I would applaud.

There's more data out, and it's official: the fire pig starter is naturally the fattest. Or at least the heaviest. Also, the reason why the sprites look so underdone in the screenshots is because we're supposed to see them in idle poses and such. There's only so much room on a Nintendo DS card, even with the latest compression algorithms, so it's about time for a new system. Also, the game might take place in alternate China.

Back to the topic of the starters themselves, once you see enough decent fanart of them, you can start to get used to them. The official art dictates how they're supposed to look, but with individuals applying their own tweaks to the designs, they come out looking pretty decent. Still, we've yet to see most of the hundred or so new Pokémon in this upcoming Generation. One thing, if they're going to keep adding evolutions to previous Generations, they'd better look decent and related enough, have some benefits worth the wait as well, and be given to those most deserving. People seem to toss around rumors of a Dunsparce evolution. If it will be done, it must be done right, or it doesn't evolve at all. This applies to many others as well.

Here is the picture again. Just follow along.

Let's start with the blue guy. It's supposed to be an otter, but resembles an over-decorated clown. It's cute-like, but not cute enough for me to call cute. Something's wrong with its facial proportions. It also has some random shell on it. Every Pokémon doesn't need a logo. In fact, they shouldn't need them to tell what they're based on. Some people are also seeing certain things in that shell that are unseeable once mentioned.

Now the middle pig thing. It has a dopey smile, which may be all-too-familiar to many. It's cute-ish as well. For some reason, its battle sprite in the picture above it looks like a rabbit. In fact, it might actually be some hybrid of a pig and rabbit which was dipped in warning paint.

And now the green lizard thing. Seriously, what is up with this thing? Its face is more out of proportion than the otter thing, and its eyes are a color that makes it look like a vampire or something. It also has some kind of vampire-looking cape. Also, I'm talking about cool vampires that decapitate stuff, not those ones you always hear about these days.

I've also posted my renditions of the original silhouettes on my deviantArt. I put a mature warning on it because of cartoon blood, so you'll have to sign in for it.

How did we go from a dinosaur with a bulb, a flaming lizard, and a turtle to... this? I'm not exactly sure, but I think Web 2.0 got in the way as far as design.

Generation I

This is where it all started. Sure, it started with slightly malformed sprites, but the general idea got across. I haven't met many that dislike these guys, mainly for nostalgia reasons. And the fact that they all evolve into insanely powerful reptiles doesn't hurt either.

Generation II

This was the next major step in the Pokémon series in general. Not only did it add another region, but it added a real-time clock, breeding, genders, Berries, new Poké Balls, updated sprites, full use of the Game Boy Color's palette, and so on. Not to mention it also introduced two more reptilian starters as well as the first mammalian one, which just so happens to be my most favorite. The Pokémon from this Generation also mainly resembled the style of the previous one.

Generation III

This is when a lot started complaining and didn't stop, even today. I honestly even forget many of the Pokémon from here, including Relicanth, Tropius, and... um... Whismur, I guess. However, the starters here are still decent-looking, despite some insane design overhaul taking over everything. You have another reptile, a bird, and, for once, an amphibian. Still, many managed to come to terms with this Generation, especially showing a great liking to the Water-type starter.

Generation IV

Now it was apparent that people wouldn't stop complaining. With even more alien designs and several unnecessary evolutions of previous Generations along with several awesome ones, plus a 3D world, this was the oddest Generation yet. Plus, there's a turtle, flaming-butt monkey, and a penguin for your starters. The penguin seems to be designed for hype, as it entered as the penguin craze was on its tail end, and it's the most pushed Pokémon at this point, except for Pikachu. It's also the one that hasn't evolved yet as far as the main characters' team in the cartoon.

I'm not calling the new designs horrendous, but... I think they could have done better. I'll have to examine them in detail later, and there's also the hope-- er... chance that this is an elaborate prank.

So, if this scan is legit, then Nintendo and Game Freak have officially lost their minds. Really, I don't see anything interesting about them. At least Piplup was cute and Turtwig was a funny-looking turtle, and Chimchar had flames on its actual rear end. The Water-type's not even that cute. Cute-ish, but not enough. This has them beat (possibly NSFW but not really). Even with those and the most likely official ones out, I'm still coming out with my rendition. It has a lot of blood.

Also, what is up with that girl's hair? Does this take place in the 1950s?

Me? I don't think they look too good. But then again, I'm going by just their shadows. As far as we know, they could be a bear, shark, and whale contorted into bizarre poses just to screw with us. I guess we'll just have to wait until a fake scan of that Japanese magazine comes out and then the real scan a day or two later. But judging by the company they keep, I'm not feeling sure about these guys. I think my story ends with SoulSilver.

What I Don't Get - Paid Themes and Icons

Why would you pay for a picture that you can easily find on the Internet and paste into something? Especially now, with the interconnectivity of everything. You can pretty much jam two things together with a USB cable and do a lot.

Instead, many elect to send a text message to some thing, which sends another text message with some picture as an attachment, and the user is billed for the messages as well as the picture. And you can't just download one thing. It always has to be some subscription service.

This problem is even prevalent on consoles. Try to find an Xbox 360 game that offers free Gamer Pictures or Themes. They're few and far between. I'm not counting Twisted Pixel's games this time, because they come free with purchase of the games, which is worth it even without the bonuses. At least all of the companies that advertise offer theirs for free, although you often end up with logos everywhere. And don't forget Avatar clothing. The best clothes for Avatars are what comes with it. If you go look at mine, you'll see a wolf hat and a chicken shirt. Those things are awesome and free.

I admit to having paid for a ringtone in the past, and this was back when every phone didn't have 3G Internet and USB connectivity. I still use that one ringtone today. If I had the tools to add other ringtones from my own music collection, I would. But I can't get the software to work because it's messed up and the phone is kind of old. I only need one ringtone anyway, and I could even go without a ringtone, just having a generic ring, but then I might get confused at times about whose phone is ringing.

I say, if we have the tools, we should be able to do whatever we want for customization within legal means. And the tools are pretty cheap these days.

TF2 Has Promotional Items, Is Now Ruined Forever

With the release of some new Sam & Max game, which is a point-and-click adventure by Telltale Games, Valve for some reason decided to give promotional items out in Team Fortress 2 for buying it this week. Considering that consumers are not paying for the hats alone (hopefully) and are getting a game out of it, it's just a little gift, exactly like what happened with Left 4 Dead 2 pre-orders, but this time from a different company. This doesn't necessarily mean selling out and paid DLC for everything from now on. That only applies to the Xbox 360 because Microsoft wants money for everything. And, of course, the items are purely aesthetic and a bit buggy.

Paying for digital goods is a bit of a touchy subject. Of course, there's the whole downloadable music thing, which at least you get a song out of that you can (hopefully) listen to wherever you want (depending on what legal service you're using to download). Then there's the extra content that wouldn't fit on the disc and actually adds extra hours of gameplay. Then there's the costumes, items, and codes that unlock things which are on the disc, all of which should be avoided as paid content. Especially the ones that unlock everything that you would normally unlock through gameplay.

And then there's these Flash games that you have to pay for. Or optionally pay for. My idea of Flash is that it's free and an advertising tool for some. Of course, given how expensive these Adobe products are, purchasers feel that they should get some revenue from them. So they make television shows with it, which are often hit or miss, frequently the latter in my opinion. Also, many phone games are pretty much reproducible in Flash.

Back to the topic of the promotional TF2 items, they're not worth the purchase. However, depending on your preferences, the game would be worth it, and the items are a little extra. I don't plan to get it myself, although I find some of Telltale's games fun.

Government Finds Out What a "Twitter" is, Decides to Save It

So, now, every public "tweet" on Twitter will be archived in the Library of Congress, the same place that holds so many other historically significant pieces. Right. They did mention the historically significant tweets like for the election in 2008 and other things. They say it's a way to see how everyone lived at this time. I agree, our lives are filled with jokes about your mother, random off-color topics, and our breakfasts. I'm not against the move, in fact, Twitter is technically a news feed. Technically. It's a collection of opinions on things as they happen.

I also know that you can turn Wikipedia into a book if you want. Or at least part of it. I wonder if that means that you can truthfully cite it in research after you've printed a copy through their service.

Xbox Live Arcade Arcade

I haven't posted in a while and I'm up way too late, but I must say that the new Game Room thing is interesting. Of course, there's the whole paying-for-things-you-shouldn't-have-to thing with the "mascots", which are 3D blocky guys from the games. I played a few demos, but I don't know if I'll get any of the games. I should mention that I played the demo for Jungler until its time limit, and I want to play some more. You can get 75 Gamerscore without paying a Microsoft Point or Token just by messing around. There's also this cheating thing where you can constantly rewind parts if you mess up, kind of like save state abuse.

Oh, and I also changed my Gamer Picture finally. I just took a picture of the emblem on my Avatar's hat. The wolf hat and chicken shirt are the best Avatar clothes, and they're totally free. You shouldn't have to pay for any of that.

Why I'm Going To Sit Through 45-Second Loading Screens

So, LittleBigPlanet for the PSP is out in UMD form. Even though I won't be getting it for a while, I'm still getting the UMD. Why? Because I've now dealt with the PlayStation Store and its broken interface. If you thought the Wii Shop Channel was bad, at least that one works. In fact, the only redeeming value of the PS Store is that it has demos, which the Wii just got recently. I've got several reasons why it needs to be repaired.

The fact that you might be downloading 1GB+ files raises the question, "What if a storm comes through or something and I lose Internet or power?" With many downloads in modern times, you can pick up where you left off. Not in the PS Store (or Wii Shop Channel, but the file sizes are at most 40MB from what I've heard). You can't even pause them voluntarily. Plus, if you're on the PC, you have to plug in your PSP to download anything. Of course, it may be downloading right onto the PSP, but it's still inconvenient.

That's the major complaint. The others are dealing with a faulty DRM model (which may have caused the death of the Sony Connect store way back when), icons not being properly optimized, and other interface tweaks. Now, I'm off to see what free Xbox Live Gold has to offer this weekend.

Why DSi?

So, I've heard that there will be DSi exclusive titles like there were exclusive Game Boy Color titles back in the day. However, the DSi is barely different from the DS Lite, except for the whole camera and lack of GBA support thing. All I say is that there better not be any titles I desperately want just for that system. At least with the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, there was a big difference. Mainly the color thing.

It's worse with the fact that it's not backwards compatible, so you still have to hold on to your other DS to play the GBA games, unless you have a real GBA or a Game Boy Player. The Wii can use GameCube discs, the PS2 can use PS1, the 360 can use certain original Xbox games, and specific models of the PS3 can use the PS2 discs. Not the PS3 slim, though. But I have seen the now discontinued old models go for about $300, the same price as the new one. The PSP Go won't use UMDs, but some games will still have them later in case you can't download the larger titles. I can't without a download manager of some sort that allows paused downloads, like Steam or XBLA. Also, I don't want to have to buy another Memory Stick for each game. They're more expensive than the cheap SD cards that the Wii and DSi take, along with half of the existing digital cameras.

This may or may not be true, but still, I wanted to talk about it.

Valve Doesn't Hate Garry's Mod

OH HEY THEY FIXED IT FAST FOR ONCE YAY

Everyone's going to complain, so just ignore this.

Valve unofficially officially hates Garry's Mod, and is using Team Fortress 2 to destroy it. It started with the classless update, which actually did have no class since it screwed up the textures to make them all black and unusable in GMod. Shortly after, someone figured out a fix that had to do with a new VMT command. Soon after that, Valve updated it with an utterly game-breaking patch that causes GMod to crash when starting up with no error box. Maybe it was the huge response to the SCOUT IS DELICIOUS fad. Maybe an argument broke out between Valve and the GMod team. All I know is that this asinine activity better stop. Next update like this, I may just completely uninstall the game. At least I have the four other games in the Orange Box.

Oh, and that regular update thing isn't happening. I just need to post my opinion on things more, like right here. Like how stock computer fans suck and I have to pay $15 to replace this one that won't stop making irritating noises like the CPU is about to burst into flame. Or how Google likes to think you're an automated poster and deny you access to random blogs and other services at random times without giving you an option to prove yourself. Or how a video card I may or may not purchase soon is so massive I may need to remove the modem I never use to fit it in.

There's also a new Eureka on Friday. There has been for a while, actually.

So, I've been thinking of renovating this thing. Making it more than a list of recommendations. I think opinions might work. I'm thinking of mostly daily posts about certain things on certain days. And alliteration. As cheesy as that is, it seems to be giving me some ideas. If I can figure it out, it might start this next Sunday, with my recommendations on television like usual but not so much recently. If not, it'll get put off for a long time maybe.

Invizimals (PSP) Apparently, the US is now getting the PSP Camera. And because of this, they want to release a game that combines EyePet, Pokémon, and fighting games. It could work, unless they add too many gimmicks.
Katamari Forever (PS3) Okay, I want a PS3 so I can play this. I like Katamari games. But I'll probably just use the default rendering style if I have a choice.
Scribblenauts (DS) Looks like it could be fun. You have to creatively solve puzzles and other things by typing in one of thousands of items.

Oh, and this is Project Natal in action. I've always wanted to see the bottoms of shoes. No, really. Just to see if they put that much detail in the model. I'm sarcastic and serious at the same time.

If anything else comes up that I want to cover, I'll update.

With the big guys pretty much done talking, there's not much left. Who knows, something good might come up, though.

Brütal Legend (360, PS3) Looks like it could be an epic metal adventure, with metal stars like Jack Black and Ozzy Osbourne starring. How can the developers mess it up? They better not.
LittleBigPlanet PSP (PSP) LittleBigPlanet is one reason why I want a PS3. They'd better port it well and not for too much, and of course, make it available to all PSPs.
Saw (PC, 360, PS3) It might just turn out to be another mediocre movie tie-in, laced with button-pressing events, but who knows? Don't get your hopes up, though.
Scratch: The Ultimate DJ (360, PS3) Wait, they haven't even come out with DJ Hero and already someone's ripping off of it? What the heck? We have better rhythm games!

E3 2009 - Day 2

Here we are again. This time Nintendo and Sony revealed things. Let's see exactly what.

Endless Ocean 2 (Wii) The first one was an all right game. This one seems to have more action in it, and you might have the ability to die this time... maybe, maybe not.
Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) So, are they finally coming out with it for real this time?
God of War III (PS3) It has an engine that makes intestines fall out of slain enemies. And all that other violence. Neat.
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS) We knew this was coming out. And let me tell you, this game is messed up. Really freaky. Even for a Mario game.
Metroid Other M (Wii) Weird title, like Halo 3: ODST, but it might just be a placeholder. If they do it right, it could be some sort of epic action. It might also have the good old 2D sidescrolling and cutscenes that take up half of the disc. We might have our next dual-layer title here.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) Good old Mario platforming, but with more detailed graphics and more players. What else can I say?
Sin and Punishment 2 (Wii) It looks like more crazy sword/gun action, like the first one that didn't make it overseas until the Virtual Console came along.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii) Well, I can't say much for this one. At least they're making it now.
WarioWare DIY (Wii, DS) Now you can officially make your own microgames that don't make sense. Maybe even that one "shove it up your own behind" game we've all heard about. Yeah, you can bet there will be some inappropriate ones. The DS is the creator and player, and the WiiWare part is the player, but it still costs money though. This will be fun, as long as it's not DSi-exclusive because of storage. The games shouldn't take up that much anyway.

And now, some new technology.

PS3 Motion Controller (it's not the 360 or the Wii, so take a guess) From what I've seen, it seems like a cross between Microsoft's new Project Natal and the Wiimote. It uses the camera and two sticks to get things done, and well.
PSP Go (PSP, but slightly different somehow) What the heck is this? Is this a phone or something? This has got to be the millionth version of the same system they've come out with. They've revised it more than Nintendo usually revises their handhelds.
Wii Vitality Sensor (just guess) This could have useful applications for things like survival horror, but everyone's probably just going to use it for fitness and health and all that.

E3 2009 - Day 1 and Previous

So, E3 is back. Therefore, I'm going to state my initial opinion on the games there. Here are some games and what I think.

Dead Space: Extraction (Wii) It looks like a horrific Metroid Prime where you can only aim and your character moves automatically. And by "horrific", I'm referring to the enemies. The game could turn out fun. I like arcade shooters.
DJ Hero (Wii, 360, PS3) No. Just... no. There are better rhythm games to techno music, like Dance Dance Revolution or Rez.
Left 4 Dead 2 (PC, 360) Left 4 Dead looks fun, but is a sequel so necessary so soon? This could easily have been a cheaper expansion pack.
LEGO Rock Band (Wii, 360, DS, PS3) Why do we even need this when we have real Rock Band and real LEGOs? It doesn't make Reese's, you know.
Modern Warfare 2 (PC, 360, PS3) This Call of Duty spin-off has a lot to live up to. I'm not a fan of warfare games, but CoD4 had a nuclear bomb in the first level, and things got more messed up from there.
Rabbids Go Home (Wii) I've found myself laughing unusually much at the gameplay. I hope this turns out well and isn't just a short minigame collection in the end.
Red Steel 2 (Wii) Hopefully it'll turn out well and not be rushed, because the Wii MotionPlus can only do so much.
Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing (PC, Wii, 360, DS, PS3) No way! No way! No way? No way! Seriously, this is just another multi-platform cash-in that will get a half rating. Sonic Team needs some new people.
TMNT: Smash Up (Wii) I don't think it'll be as epic as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but it does have the team from that game, so this may be surprisingly good or bad.
Tony Hawk: Ride (360, PS3) The Tony Hawk series is trying too hard to be realistic, and now this one's coming with a special controller, not unlike but not a rip-off of the Wii Balance Board, which means it'll cost too much. They should let Skate handle the realism and take the Tony Hawk series back to the arcade-style fun it was founded on.

And now, the new technology announced.

Project Natal (360) It's essentially a Wii, for your whole body. If they can fix all of the bugs and make it not extremely expensive, this just might be awesome. But then again, this is Microsoft, so we can't get our hopes up too much.
Xbox 360 New Dashboard Features (360, of course) I don't care about being able to access social networking sites from the console when the computer is sitting mere feet away from it, and I don't even use those sites anyway. The Internet radio is a nice touch, if only it were available to Silver members as well, but of course, Microsoft just wants your money. I have a computer (and a PSP) for Internet radio, anyway.

I'll be back to talk about Nintendo's stuff and other things. Hopefully they won't use the fog machine of shame or talk about cute puppies.

How And Why To Purchase Excitebots

With poor sales (even though the monthly figures only account for the last ten days of April), you'd think Excitebots is a piece of shovelware. But it's not. It's an official Nintendo title. Here's how and why to get this game which is actually fun.

Stock the freaking game correctly. Out of several stores I've visited, only a select few managed to correctly stock the game where it was visible and had more than one copy. And I didn't visit many stores, so that's about one store. Some stores may have it sideways or out of the way and not in order or facing backwards. Look hard in the Wii section. They might not even have it, or just not display it and you may have to ask for it. At least there's always Amazon.
Recognize the cover. I had trouble finding the game for the first time. The cover is so busy and resembles so many horrible game covers that you may need it pointed out. HERE IS THE COVER. Study it, memorize it, but don't eat it because I don't advocate eating paper, except for specifically labeled edible paper.
Let people know. I'm doing it right now. Reviews also help. However, everyone doesn't always trust critics. Try to mention somewhere in there that it's related to Excitebike. If they didn't care for Excite Truck, though, they might not want this title. Can't help you there.

Now here's why. We need more online players to match up with. Even if you can't go online, like if you have dial-up still, it's still good, family-friendly fun. And by family-friendly, I mean good, not stuff that makes you vomit. And the whole thing is that it's fun. Throw all of your realism concepts out the window for this one. I'm talking about the people who thrive only in things such as Gran Turismo. Sure, that's fun, but you've got to suspend your disbelief sometime. Or, in this case, stick that disbelief in a shoebox and shove it under your bed until you're done playing. At least give it a try. It won't kill you, unless you bludgeon yourself with the remote, which before then, the remote would break. And you don't have to get the Wii Wheel if you really don't want to.

Okay, they're going public beta with these changes. At least they're giving us a chance to see something before it destroys us.

It doesn't make sense to change things that work. The HD subtitles problem is caused by people who assume everyone has an HDTV and can read tiny text. YouTube is assuming that we can tell what videos are by looking at this thumbnail that can't be bigger than 24 by 16 pixels. They're barely larger than those system tray icons. And the fact that you can't view the video's actual page is senseless. Even the grid layout is screwed up because it still goes back to the stupid embedded video thing. Embedded videos are for non-YouTube sites. Videos should have their own page on the site they're hosted on. Even those video on demand sites give a semi-page with comments and descriptions that work which is better than this.

At the very least, I request that we should be able to keep the old layout if we want or even make our own style with CSS or something.

I played some TF2 today. First time. Of course, I died a lot. I ended up playing as the Soldier most of the time. Mainly because I can actually hit with the rockets. Also, I played in Arena, because I don't like having to defend stuff, even though there's also defending stuff in Arena, because after a minute, a control point opens up in the middle and you can win by capturing that.

I started as the Pyro, but died a lot because the Flamethrower is short range. I also tried being a Scout and Heavy, and also an Engineer and Medic, but I couldn't really do those last two because I couldn't bring up the special options of them. Then I played as the Soldier for the rest of the time. My kill-death ratio is probably really messed up, but I don't care. I once sneaked in one of the Arena levels and as the other guys were fighting, I captured the control point. That was funny.

My Thoughts On Sonic Unleashed: Pre-Release

So, you've probably heard of Sonic Unleashed. I've heard high expectations about it, but I'm keeping mine medium-low. After Sonic 2006 and the Secret Rings, I just hope they actually stick to the formula correctly. They decided to add stages where Sonic becomes a Werehog to fight stuff and platform around. They're also adding a bunch of random characters that might just be in that game alone. As long as the speed stages don't have bad controls and the fight stages don't just suck, it may turn out okay.

Then there's the issue of multi-platform release. The PS3 might get the best package. The 360 might get one with long and frequent loading times, unless they finally learned how much memory the system actually has. The Wii and PS2 releases will be the same, the only difference is that the PS2 won't have motion controls. The WiiS2 version will have not-HD graphics, but hopefully good enough. The Wii version will have motion controls, but hopefully not so bad that you have to slam your arm into the nearest wall to trigger them. A seperate team is working on part of the WiiS2 version, which so happens to be the team behind the correctly-made Sonic Rush series. Hopefully it will turn out well for both classes of consoles, the HD and the budget.

Nintendo DSi - Too Soon/Late?

Turns out Nintendo is making another DS. Go here and here. This thing has two cameras (again, one visual device isn't enough) and an SD card slot, but no GBA slot. You know Guitar Hero: On Tour? If you want to play that, you need a GBA slot. Maybe Nintendo doesn't want any more Guitar Hero on their systems. I don't know. But there will be DSiWare. This may or may not mean Virtual Handheld Console. It comes with a browser (unsure if it'll be as bad as the current one). Hey, the original DS was just released about four years ago, and the DS Lite two years later. I don't think I'll invest in this. Besides, you're supposed to keep all of the features when you upgrade. Well, all except the "features" that customer support can't help you with. I'm not saying that the current DS is bad, I'm implying that I don't want the DSi.

My Thoughts On E3 2008 - The Rest

There were a few games that I didn't cover or didn't want to. I'll just knock out as many as I can.

Street Fighter IV (Ps3, 360): Looks just like the old one in 3D because it looks all fancy. And that's good.
LittleBigPlanet (PS3): I don't get exactly why it's so popular. I think it's the customization.
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. (Multi): Jet plane fighting is always fun when they do it right. I'll watch to see if they make the Wii version not suck like Wii ports tend to do with certain companies.
de Blob (Wii): Looks fun. Make things pretty again. I'll watch it.
Skate It (Wii, DS): So, the city's gone under a natural disaster or something (and in Nintendo fashion, nobody got hurt). Is this an excuse to not have pedestrians to run over? I'll watch just to see if it's better than the recent Tony Hawk downports, which shouldn't be a stretch.
Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party 2 (Wii): I think Nintendo always seems to get the bad end of DDR games. They have too many gimmicks and such and the songs aren't as weird and Japanese as the ones in the other console versions. I'll pass because they still have DDR for the PS2.
Puchi Puchi Virus (DS): Think Trauma Center, except a puzzle and freaky. Possible watch.

There's all the games I'm willing to cover. There are a few more, but I won't touch those because I can't form an opinion or my opinion is super biased. Like how I don't like Viva Piñata. That's it.

The last few things of E3. I'll go back and find all the games that weren't covered by the site I'm using and give some opinion on those, maybe.

Pikmin 3 (Wii): They're making it. I'm watching it.
Oneechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (Wii): No, the bikinis are on the women, not the zombies. So fun-looking that I'll watch it.

Stuff that's on stuff I don't own.

levelHead (Linux): Looks fun. And open.
This is Vegas (PS3, 360): Keep all King Leonidas references to a minimum. Pretty much the opposite of any game Nintendo might put out. Down with family-friendliness!

And that's about it. Again, I might check the ones that weren't so gloriously presented and were only mentioned. I'll get around to that.

A few more games up now. Again, the ones for the Wii/DS/PSP are first to be passed or watched, and then the other ones.

Gravity (Wii, DS): It's a physics game. Too bad that there are too many of those on the Internet already, plus Garry's Mod. A pass for this one.
Fatal Frame IV (Wii): Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of survival horror. I still want to play Eternal Darkness sometime, though. Pass.
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (Multi): I hope they don't screw this up, especially for the Wii. Watch in case it's good.
MadWorld (Wii): PlatinumGames (new Clover) is making this one. Looks fun. I'll watch it.
Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia (DS): I passed on the first one, so I'll pass on this one.

Now the other ones.

Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon (PS3, 360): This will be good, hopefully.
The Sims 3 (PC): Whatever it is, I hope they get it right this time.
Flock! (PS3, 360): What the heck? If I want UFO action, I'd pick up a Destroy All Humans! title.
Home (PS3): Finally, Second Life will be coming out for the PS3. Except it's not Second Life.

My Thoughts On E3 2008 - Day 2

Day 2 has passed, and Nintendo gave their conference. Let's just get to the games, and pass or watch them.

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels (Wii): If they didn't look like cheap statues, I would consider it. But unfortunately, I have to be able to look at a game to play it. Pass.
Spore Creatures (DS): This isn't Spore. It's a specialized version for the DS. I'll watch and hope they don't screw it up.
Wii Sports Resort (360... just kidding): Looks like you'll get some WiiMotionPlus training! Watch, just in case there's a good game coming out that uses WiiMotionPlus.
Wii Music (What do you think?): I've yet to be impressed. I'll pass for now, unless something mind-blowing happens.
Family Game Night (Wii): You can already play these games in real life. Definite pass.
Animal Crossing: City Folk (Wii): Super-watch. About time they put holidays back in. And it's about time you get to go to a city. And it's about time you do a lot of other stuff.
MySims Kingdom (Wii): I hope they fixed those glitches and didn't put in more. Watch.
Guitar Hero: World Tour (Multi): It's Rock Band! Oh, wait, it's not. I'll probably pass.
Wario Land: Shake It! (Wii): Another Wario Land game. Watch for the fun of it.
Rhythm Heaven (DS): It's kind of like Wario Ware. Watch just in case.
The Conduit (Wii): Now this is what the Wii is for! I have to keep reminding myself it's not for the 360. I'm watching this one.
Kirby Super Star Ultra (DS): I never had an SNES, so this would be my first time playing Kirby Super Star. I'm watching.
GTA: Chinatown Wars (DS): GTA for the DS? I'm going to watch this.

And now the other games that aren't coming to systems I own.

God of War 3 (PS3): Yes.
Afro Samurai (PS3, 360): AFRO SAMURAI!!!
Fracture (PS3, 360): They'd better not screw up screwing up the terrain.

That's all for what was pretty much Day 2. There was another look at Sonic Unleashed, where gameplay as Sonic's beast form was shown. They'd better not screw it up. Next, a few other developers have some conferences.

I'm going to say it again: 360, quit copying Mii! I know that's going to tick everybody off.

My Thoughts On E3 2008 - Day 1 And Before

I'll be posting recaps on the days of E3 2008, getting my information from here. I pick that because it has the most info I could find. In fact, the official E3 site also pointed me there. For some of the games that I can actually get, which are for the Wii, PSP, and DS (since those are my systems), I'll either appoint a watch or pass. I bet you could figure out what those mean. I'll just comment on the others that I can't get because I don't have a 360 or PS3, and my PC is way past incompatible.

Zubo (DS): I'll pass on this one. I don't like the characters.
Sonic Unleashed (Multi): I'm watching this one. Hopefully it doesn't suck. Dang, that trailer looked fake. There was even an "event" on April 1!
Defendin' De Penguin (Wii, DS): As much as I like penguins, an RTS for kids is not my game. I pass.
Mega Man 9 (Wii): Watch, although I may or may not get it. I still like 8-bit action, and more games need to be like this.
Lego Batman (Multi): I'm not that big a fan of Batman. It's also probably incredibly similar to Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones. I'll pass on this one.

Now for the games that I can't get.

Portal: Still Alive (360): Too bad that it's a 360 exclusive. PC owners would love some new puzzles, and a new game, of course. PORTAL ROCKS!!!
The New 360 Interface (360, of course): Quit copying Mii!
Sim Animals (PC?): You already have Spore. What's the point of this?

And just some games which may or may not be at E3, but ones that I found interesting.

Prey the Stars (DS): I would so rather play this than Major League Eating, although the concept is similar. I'm watching.
Captain Rainbow (Wii): A guy called Captain Rainbow goes to the island of misfit Nintendo characters. If this even comes over, I'll be surprised. Watch.

There are all of my comments for what was roughly Day 1 of E3 2008. The Nintendo conference is soon, so hopefully that will give us all stuff to think about.

What I Don't Get - That Weird PSP Visualization

All the people without cracked firmware probably know what I'm talking about. There's a weird visualization that was added later than the others. It's a beige screen. And it ages. What kind of visualization is that? I don't need to watch my PSP age. I already have the old model. I've looked at it several times to try to figure out what the heck is going on. Just last night I listened to music on it for several minutes and a bunch of green cracks appeared on the beige wall. They formed three butt shapes. Is this a joke or something? Watching this thing for about twenty minutes produces weird curvy lines that just happen to form three butts. Couldn't they make a better one with 3D pictures and stuff? I mean, it's a PSP and all, so it can show 3D. We should be able to make our own visualizations without having cracked firmware. Just like the custom themes. Except accept more filetypes.

What I Don't Get - Some Cartoons These Days

Cartoons back in the old days used to be instrumental ultraviolent gems with little to no speech. Actions made the storyline. Now they're a dime a dozen won't-shut-up ugly nonsenses. Yes, there are still some good cartoons, such as the Simpsons and South Park, but I'm talking about bad cartoons. You've got your stupid ones that don't teach anything, or teach things that you already knew. And the ones that are only meant to entertain don't do so.

Sure, once in a while a good one comes out. But the rest of the time you've got crap. People aren't even really using paper anymore. I can understand the costs, but there should be some animators willing to do the old pen and paper style on the computer. And CGI. Do that wrong and you've got some ugly characters. I talked about that before. Video game tie-ins used to be fun, like the Super Mario Bros. cartoons. Now you've got crap like Viva Piñata. And that's ugly CGI.

Maybe it's just because I'm older and stuff. But usually when I like something, I like it no matter what age. I get nostalgic watching Bill Nye and Beakman and Magic School Bus. It might happen again with Wall-E. It's a kids Pixar Disney movie, but I've heard about things that only older people can pick up. I'll just have to watch it to find out.

What I Don't Get - Ugly CGI Characters

What's with those ugly computer-generated characters? I mean the ones from that Crazy Fox commercial, the Crazy Frog, Toki Tori (but not so much as the other two), that snuggle bunny from those Jamster commercials...

Who actually likes these behemoths of polygon torture?!?

They even try things other than animals, and they look horrendous. Take attempted humans for example. Heard of a place called the Uncanny Valley? It's not a place, but a term to when something is almost human but looks horrible. Even if they're not trying for realism, the styles they pick might be grotesquely mutilated. I'm fine with people and their various art styles, but I don't want to have to see them in commercials. They're more likely to stop me from buying their product!

So, instead of having to be forced to go for high-resolution ultra-realism that falls short, we should have the option of being as low-polygon as Andross in the SNES version of Star Fox.

So, I was just messing around on the Wall-E website for the heck of it, and then I clicked on a little game. My mind was blown.

Look.

Yes, that is real 3D with textures and everything. And it's all in the SWF file. Believe me, I can tell whether something's Shockwave only or is pre-rendered.

I don't know how old this is, but now that Flash can have 3D and not kill my computer...

Let's hope that the developers don't make it so it kills my computer. :)

Seriously, Flash can finally count to 3... dimensions. Yes, that sounds corny, but who gives a crap? It's right freaking there.
